Cape Town offers great choice of apartments, guest houses and hotels with high standards and very reasonable prices. With over 4​ million inhabitants this cosmopolitan city is way much more than just a kitesurfing destination. Cape Town is the oldest city in South Africa. Beautiful and diverse metropolis with two oceans, Lion’s Head and world-famous Table Mountain. Although the city has Mediterranean climate, most of kitesurfing spots are on the west side of the Cape Peninsula, on the cold Atlantic Ocean. Therefore, whether summer or winter, wearing a suit is a must.

Blouberg - Kite beach

  • The most known and busiest spot in Cape Town, but you can park your car, setup and launch anywhere from the main Kite Beach spot to Doodles Restaurant .

  • Home of King Of The Air competition since 2018
  • Famous South Easterly wind blowing side-side shore from the left
  • Best Wind: SE, NW. Also works with S, SW and W.

  • Plenty of kite shops, great restaurants, bars and coffee shops.

  • Rigging area on the beach, with enough parking spots

  • Huge choice of beachfront apartments with stunning views and guest houses. High standards of accommodation, good value for money.
  • Great for high jumps and wave riding. No hazards, apart from one-small top of the rock at a very low tide

Sunset Beach

  • Wind is usually SE, slightly offshore and gusty. Amazing spot for wave kitesurfing and very popular spot for windsurfers.

  • Best Wind Direction SE, S, SW, W, NW

  • Ideal place to start downwinder to Doodles or to Big Bay
  • Most of accommodation is in guest houses. More expensive neighbourhood than Blouberg and Big Bay, especially beachfront properties.
  • Only two kite shops and few restaurants, very quiet residential area.

  • Rigging area on the beach. There are three separated parking areas.

Dolphin Beach

  • It’s right next to the kite beach and conditions are almost the same. Dolphin Beach is basically part of Blouberg.

  • Famous South Easterly wind blowing side-side shore from the left

  • Best Wind: SE, NW. Also works with S, SW and W.

  • No kite shops and only one restaurant, but Dolphin Beach is only 10-15 min walk from center of Blouberg.

  • Rigging area on the beach

  • Accommodation: Dolphin Beach Apartments that have direct access to the kitesurfing beach and additionally a swimming pool.

  • No hazards at all, only spot can be crowded December-February.

Big Bay

  • Blessed with a beautiful, clean waves spot is popular with surfers, kitesurfers and advanced windsurfers.

  • Although it’s called Big Bay the bay itself is small, with rocks on the left and right. Further downwind it’s perfect for downwinder and wave riding all the way to Haakgat.

  • Great choice of apartments with high standards and reasonable prices.

  • Big Bay used to be home of the King of the Air kiteboarding competition before it moved to the Kite beach in Blouberg.

  • Best Wind: SE, NW. The wind arrives later than in Blouberg and once it gets strong it gets gustier.

  • Rigging area on the beach or on the grass next to the parking area.
  • Hazards: rocks in the water and landing can be tricky due to gusts and pebbles on the beach. Not the best place for self landing.

  • Big Bay beachfront promenade has amazing views of Cape Town. Many restaurants, coffee shops, kitesurfing shop and supermarket are all part of Eden on The Bay lifestyle complex.
